Pages from a proto-Cyrillic manuscript

Visiting the monastary at Sázava, Czechia, I was delighted to see a letter written by St. Cyril in his own hand. Cyril and Methodius were missionaries who brought literacy to the Slavic lands, and Cyril created an alphabet to match Slavic phoenetics.

This example is an early version of Cyril’s alphabet before it became the codified alphabet we know today.

Going to Sázava Monastary

Sázava Monastary has been recently renovated and is a quiet powerhouse. Lots of interesting things to do in Sázava including swimming, river rafting and hiking. Definitely worth checking out.
